Posted : 3 years, 6 months ago on 18 July 2008 02:20 (A review of The Dark Knight)

It is finally here, THE DARK KNIGHT. After so much anticipation, the wait wasn't for nothing. This is simply a grand-multi-characters-crime-opera for the ages. A solid cast, a solid screenplay, a solid director can't go wrong. For over 2 hours, you will be wanting to see more, to hear more and at the end (and what a brillant ending)you will leave satisfy.

All the characters in this story are well shaped and aren't easy to resume in a few lines. But the one who's getting all the attention (and of course he deserve it) it's the TOUR-DE-FORCE performance by the late Heath Ledger. Everytime he appeared on the screen, everybody in the theater was so quiet trying to not miss any words, sounds or laughs coming from the Joker. This is one give-him-the-oscar-right-away role that will be cherish for years to come.

So expect something completely different from all the trailers you've seen of this film. The story goes in some directions you can not expect and that's a very good thing.

Can't wait for the third one...

First masterpiece quebecois

Posted : 5 years, 2 months ago on 15 November 2006 10:51 (A review of Pour la suite du monde)

Pour la suite du monde is a totally unique experience made by some of the best directors in the french program of the National Film Board. Pierre Perrault was in charge of the group who want to the beautiful Charlevoix region to film the reconstitution of an old tradition, "la peche aux marsouins" (fishing of the killerwhale). They went there for three weeks for a short film, they came back six months later with 3 features of 2 hours each (known as La trilogie de l'Isle-aux-Coudres, there is aslo LE REGNE DU JOUR ans LES VOITURES D'EAU). This documentary was the first film from Quebec to receive the masterpiece classification. For is humanity, for the excellence of the storyline, the characters and the technique, this is simply one of the best documentary you will see in your life. A must see !

Posted : 5 years, 2 months ago on 10 November 2006 03:05 (A review of The Double Life of Véronique)

Poetry, frame by frame. The double life of Veronique, of master director Krzysztof Kieslowski, is exactly the perfect picture from my point of view. This intriging story of two identical women (Veronique and Veronica) who don't know each other but can feel one another is simply a tour-de-force of emotions and imagery. Kieslowski go slowly to reveal the mystery behind those "twins" who are not, without telling you too much. Just enough to follow them (both played marvelously by french actress Irene Jacob) and feel the same way they do. A true masterpiece !

I'm back here. Now for ask you an advice. I'm learning french, so I would like some recommendations. Movies are welcome, but I would be thankful if you could introduce me bands. I'm trying to know new ones (I like Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour, but I'm a little tired of them). By now, I'm listening Manu Chao's "Siberie m'etait contée". Any suggestion? If helps, in english I like a lot of things, but rock (not heavy-metal) and Britpop the most. Regards

Hi,
I'm a friend of Carol (one friend of yours) and I clicked in you because I do know every friend of hers but you, so I got a bit curious. Anyway, I read your "About my Collection" comment and, as I am studying libraries, I ask you: What is the name of this amazing library you talked about?
